Introduction
Gender and Women's Studies Graduate Programme at Middle East Technical University (METU) was established in February 1994 under a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) funded project to the Directorate General on the Status and Problems of Women of the Government of Turkey.
The main feature of the program is its interdisciplinary structure. Both academic staff and students from different academic backgrounds give the program a unique and privileged richness. Faculty members of the Gender and Women's Studies Graduate Programme coming from different departments like Sociology, Psychology, Political Sciences, History, Public and Business administration are nationally and internationally qualified experts conducted in years of research in women's studies. Since the program's establishment, students with bachelor degrees in Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, American Culture and Literature, English Language and Literature, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Industrial Engineering and others have been accepted. The student profile dwells on gaining an education in gender topics, combining this knowledge with the experiences of their study fields and contributing to the development of a multidimensional approach to gender and women's studies. Gender and Women's Studies Graduate Programme at Middle East Technical University offers thesis and non-thesis programs. The program honoured 40 students, 23 theses and 17 non-thesis, with a Master's degree from its establishment.
