Introduction
Now mechanical design needs modelling and simulating physical complex phenomenon with a multi-scale and multi-physical approach. This implies to implement and to manage modelling and optimisation methods and tools, which are integrated into a systemic approach.
The Mechatronic systems and advanced mechanics (SMA) program concern students in mechanics who want to open their mind to systems engineering, and to be able to integrate different physics or technologies, as well as students in mechatronics who want to increase their knowledge in optimisation and multidisciplinary simulation techniques.
The Major in Interacting Complex Systems is an integral part of the Labex "System of Systems Control" education program. It benefits from the Government label as a “laboratory of excellence” (Spring 2011), with 3 joint UTC/CNRS research units: BMBI (UMR 7338), Heudiasyc (UMR 7253) and Roberval (UMR 7337).
Pedagogical context
This area of specialisation educates students in robust and/or optimised conception methods for structures or pluri-technological systems, and in the main modelling and simulation tools used in R&D. Special courses are also offered for original applications (smart materials, innovative transducers and actuators, integrated systems, etc.) to prepare students for the pending breakthrough in the fields covering materials and systems.
To design, study and implement such systems the training focuses on mechanical engineering and technological mechatronics, particularly in:
- digital modelling and simulation,
- multi-disciplinary optimisation,
- robust design,
- system engineering and integration,
- compact transducers and actuators.
Professional goals
Students who successfully complete the SMA Master’s degree can apply for professional positions in the following areas :
- mechanical engineering industry,
- automotive,
- railway,
- aerospace and defence,
- research, teaching, higher education
