Pioneering in Arts, Media
The creative industry has been one of the strongest economic growth sectors for years, expanding the field of cultural, media and art-related fields of work. Graduates of universities, art, music, drama and film academies, who want to secure a place in this field, are often faced with the question of how to use their own strengths and abilities productively in organizations and companies or how they succeed be able to act independently. How do ideas come from ideas? And how does one make creative know-how socially fruitful? The master's program Pioneering in Arts, Media is looking for answers to these and similar questions
The MA AMC is aimed both at students who want to understand and redesign the classical forms of work in the cultural and media sector, and at those who develop start-ups and innovative working models in the non-profit sector, the independent scene or the dynamically growing creative industries would like. In his interdisciplinary orientation he turns to future designers, founders and change agents in the field of culture, media and creative industries. In the study program, knowledge of cultural and communication theory, curatorial and managerial forms of practice should be made intelligible to one another and brought into conversation with each other in a creative way.
The aim of the study is the preparation for socially reflected, artistically inspired and entrepreneurially responsible activities in the field of culture, media and creative industries.
The teaching is divided into four fields:
- Cultural theory and society;
- Cultural production and curating;
- Media, communication and new publics;
- Markets, management, leadership and entrepreneurial skills.
The MA AMC offers the opportunity for individual focus. The study program promotes the sharpening of theoretical thinking, the practice of research on specific issues as well as a cooperative management and leadership understanding. A broad interdisciplinary spectrum of coordinated theory and project modules introduces current communication strategies, innovative cultural and event formats as well as field-specific organizational forms and offers theoretical perspectives on 21st century society. The focus is on the consequences of digital change, cultural upheavals and the emergence of new public spheres as a result of digitization. The planning, management and organizational understanding therefore focuses particularly on participatory approaches.
An inspiring environment characterized by student initiatives, social enterprises and civic engagement, a direct and personal contact with the teachers, work areas such as the artsprogram and the media laboratory, student-responsible formats such as the campus radio "Welle20" or student festivals conveys a critically self-confident Attitude and promotes self-initiative thinking and acting. In close cooperation with practice partners (eg innovative cultural organizers, communication agencies, museums or municipalities) and in exchange with teachers, the MA AMC encourages conceptual, critical and autonomous thinking. In a very personal work environment, strategies are jointly developed to bring cultural projects and social ideas to the market as services or event formats without damaging their idealistic approach. This environment of cross-student learning in concentrated and inspirationally equipped campus buildings provides an ideal framework for personal development and development.

Possible fields of work for graduates of the MA AMC are media houses, the music, film and gaming industry and, above all, the entire cultural work sector: festivals, the independent scene, start-ups, planning offices, exhibitions, art markets, consulting, music and event agencies, concert promoters, project rooms and socio-cultural projects, publishing, design offices and cultural and communication departments in companies. At the same time, the cultural, media and creative sectors are also a dynamic field, as many new and specialized occupational profiles have yet to be differentiated. Here, too, the study program prepares its graduates.
In addition, the MA AMC also lays the foundation for a subsequent cultural or communication science doctorate through the share of theory-oriented modules.
The MA AMC is open to undergraduate and graduate students from the entire spectrum of cultural, humanities and social sciences, media and communication sciences as well as students of different artistic disciplines including design and architecture. The admission is decided in an individual, two-stage selection process.
