Sciences and Technologies for Energy Master’s program encompasses mandatory and elective scientific courses, French language learning, various projects and an internship. This first year allows students to acquire advanced scientific and technological knowledge. The elective courses cover an array of topics including physics, engineering, applied mathematics and network management. Through their choice of specialized courses, students will be able to customize their learning to pursue one of the following second-year majors: Clean Energy Production, Energy Infrastructure Management or Optimizing Energy Utilizations.
The second year of the Energy Master’s Program at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris consists of three majors with a set of common courses, plus specialized learning and an internship. The common courses cover the energy transition for climate change mitigation, a global approach to engineering systems and the economics of energy markets, as well as French language courses.
Major 1 - Energy Infrastructure Management
The Energy Infrastructures Management major focuses on optimizing energy distribution and managing and designing high-performance infrastructure. Students will be able to choose from a wide range of computer engineering courses relating to network management, machine learning and data mining. They will also take engineering courses covering energy storage and specialized courses in economics.
Major 2 - Optimizing Energy Utilizations
The Optimizing Energy Utilizations major is intended for students interested in building a less energy-intensive society by promoting optimized energy efficiency in buildings, transport and process industries. There are three main specialized courses: physical sciences and engineering, applied mathematics, and computer engineering. There is also a dedicated course in economics.
Major 3 - Towards Clean Energy Production
The Towards Clean Energy Production major is intended for students interested in pursuing a career or a PhD in the energy transition with a specific focus on low-carbon energy production technologies. Students will be able to choose from a wide range of physical sciences and engineering courses related to renewable energies. They will follow courses in applied mathematics and economics.
The program will allow students to:
Develop an overall awareness of the challenges linked to the energy transition
Acquire high-level knowledge of the scientific and technological aspects of energy storage and distribution ; energy efficiency and distribution ; clean energy production
Gain experience in computer engineering applied to the energy sector
Acquire a broad understanding of energy economics
Solve complex problems relating to smart grids, network security and data management in an international context, taking into account relevant technical, economic, social and environmental challenges
After completing the second year of the Master, students will be able to pursue a Ph.D. or occupy a wide range of positions in the energy sector including:
R&D engineer specializing in the wind or solar technologies, developing batteries or fuel cells, treating pollutants and waste in the energy industry
Smart grid developer
Wind farm or solar plant project manager
Consultant in sustainable development
Power analyst for energy markets
Public policy advisor
Bachelor of Science from a top university.
High level of understanding in fundamental disciplines (mathematics, physics, mechanics, chemistry).
