Food production needs to be increased in scale and efficiency, while at the same time animal welfare, the environment, and natural resources need to be protected. A degree in agrobiology will equip you to play a part in finding solutions to these problems.

In the Master’s Program in Agricultural Sciences (AGRI), you can pursue studies in plant production sciences, animal science, agrotechnology, or environmental soil science, depending on your interests and previous studies. The University of Helsinki is the only university in Finland to offer academic education in this field.

Teaching in the Master's Program in Forest Sciences at the University of Helsinki is based on top level research. The goal of our teaching is to educate students to become experts in the field of forest sciences. Studies in the Program provide a strong basis that spurs on independent and critical thinking. Multidisciplinary thinking and problem-solving skills are emphasized in teaching. Students learn to evaluate forest-related phenomena that influence ecological, economical and social issues.

Upon graduating from the Master's Program in Agricultural, Environmental and Resource Economics (AGERE),  you will be a professional in applied economics in agricultural, environmental and resource-focused fields. You will be well versed in topics such as climate policy, sustainable agriculture and food security. The Master's Program comprises two study tracks:

The master's program places an emphasis on developing students' knowledge and skills necessary for understanding and conducting research in a variety of scientific and professional areas. Our courses are intended for students of the Soil and Water teaching program as well as students specializing in environmental studies, agricultural production branches, horticulture, and field crops and vegetables.

The teaching program provides students with opportunities to study and research various environmental topics, with an emphasis on pollution treatment, overexploitation of natural resources, and the influence of agriculture on these issues. The program encompasses chemical, physical, ecological, economical, and ethical aspects.

Graduates of the Agroecology and Plant Health teaching program acquire the knowledge required for dealing with agricultural and environmental issues using a multi-disciplinary approach based on ecological principles. Both research and teaching center on studying the interactions between the biotic and abiotic factors in agricultural systems, and on environmental aspects of modern agriculture.

MSc European Forestry (MSc EF) is a top-class taught Erasmus+: Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Program (EMJMD) in the field of forest sciences. The quality of our program is acknowledged by the European Commission, which awarded the MSc European Forestry Erasmus Mundus status for years 2004–2014 and for years 2016–2019.

The general objective of the title "Master in Agricultural Engineering" is the training of senior technicians trained to project, plan, organize, direct and control the production systems and processes developed in the agri-food sector, including the infrastructures and facilities necessary for efficient performance. of said productive activities, all within a framework of protection and conservation of the environment and development and improvement of the rural environment.

The master's degree provides students with the knowledge and skills to design and carry out research in aquaculture and give professional answers, design and management of continental and marine facilities, environmental impact assessment and R+D+i needs, for the development of the aquaculture industry. . It is an interuniversity master's degree with the universities of A Coruña and Vigo.

We train trained personnel to practice, with total guarantees, the regulated profession of Agricultural Engineer in an increasingly complex and competitive labor market.

Agricultural Engineering is a three year bachelor study program taught in English. The first two years of study demonstrates theoretical basis in agricultural technology which enables students to undertake further study in technical and biological sciences. The last year of study is focused on the practical application of the theoretical knowledge. The selection of undergraduate thesis allows students to specialize in a specific area of interest such as biological systems engineering.

Tropical Farming Systems (TFS) is a two-years Master's study programme taught in English. The programme is oriented on modern farming systems in tropical regions of developing countries. The TFS study program covers the issue of crop production with emphasis on the long-term sustainability of farming systems and surrounding natural ecosystems. Furthermore, the program focuses on sustainable production, management and protection of domestic animals.

The English branch of study is implemented in collaboration with the Faculty of Environmental Sciences of the Czech University of Life Sciences and represents the next level of study building on the branches of study at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences and the Faculty of Environmental Sciences or related branches of study at other faculties and universities. It may only be taken up in the full-time form.
