This specializing master combines the teaching units of the specializing master "Project management in construction works" with the teaching units of the specializing master "BIM Manager". BIM (Building Information Modeling) is an increasingly important tool for the correct management of the design phase, construction sites, extraordinary maintenance works, etc., regardless of the size and complexity of the intervention in question. Knowing the digitization trends of the building sector and using them wisely, aiming at better performance and higher work quality, is becoming increasingly important for project managers in the civil and infrastructure sectors. For this reason, this specializing master will offer a greater number of teaching hours (if compared to each of the two specializing masters dedicated respectively to PM and BIM) distributed both in the first semester (November-March) and in the second semester (April-October), replacing the period of internship which is not required. Each student is going to write her / his master thesis that will be delivered to the Master School and defended in order to achieve the diploma by the Politecnico di Milano. -

The goal of this specializing master is to teach the most important tools and techniques of project and contract management to both engineers and architects. Today it is increasingly important to know how a project should be managed from beginning to end, to optimize costs and time. During this specializing master, the students will be introduced to the theory of project management, the valuation of investments, and the principles of corporate accounting. Students will receive all the needed information to take the exam and obtain the PMI (Project Management Institute) and IPMA (International Project Management Association) certificates. They will also receive all the information necessary to take the exam and obtain the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management. Students will receive all the information necessary to become a Lean Green Belt Project Leader, and also all the information necessary to become certified project managers in Italy through Accredia. Besides all those PM tools, this specializing master will also provide more specific concepts of contract, claims, and delays management in civil and infrastructural works. The need for technicians (engineers and/or architects) who become competent in the management of contracts and claims and who can perform a delay analysis in accordance with commonly applied international standards is increasingly urgent among the major general contractors in Italy and abroad. Our globalized world requires that professionals involved in contract and dispute management know how to deal with complex technical issues and at the same time know the legal aspects involved. It is essential for professionals with a purely technical background to know the "rules of the game" in the international arena. Therefore, they should know the fundamental principles of civil and common law, as well as international arbitration, together with the most widely used international contracts (FIDIC, JCT, NEC, AAA) and the many complex technical and legal details in the analysis and management of delays and construction variants. -

This specializing master course aims to give the main tools of project management to both engineers and architects. Nowadays it is getting more and more important to know how any project should be managed from its inception to its end, in order to optimize costs and to get forward according to a predefined schedule. During this specializing master the students will be introduced to the theory of project management, of investment valuation, and financial accounting. They will receive all the information needed to obtain the PMI (Project Management Institute) certifications and the IPMA (International Project Management Association) certifications. They will also receive all the information needed to obtain the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management. They will receive all the information needed to become a Lean Green Belt Project Leader. And all the information needed to become an accredited project manager in Italy with Accredia. Besides all these PM tools, specific knowledge about digitization of the construction industry and about data analysis, learning how to use a powerful tool like Matlab for data management. Today in fact project and safety managers can no longer do without a deep knowledge about a trend, digitization of the construction industry, which is only destined to become ever more important in coming years. The construction industry generates a huge amount of data which until now have been mostly wasted. The ability to collect those data, to store them, to interpret and to use them efficiently will lead in the future to major competitive advantages. So much so that ultimately project and safety managers and data analysts are going to become just one professional figure. Last but not least, a whole unit is about soft skills, those interpersonal attitudes and capabilities that make the difference between a good project manager and a mediocre one. In a world where automation is becoming the norm, the abilities to deal with people, to manage relationships, to communicate well and to lead are becoming more and more relevant, abilities that by their very nature won’t be replicated by machines for still a very long time to come. -
