During the two-year Master's program Ecology and Evolution you will gain insight into the living organism in relation to its environment. Ecology and evolution are strongly interdependent: without ecology, we cannot really understand natural selection; and without evolution, we cannot really understand the properties of organisms and their interaction with the environment. Ecology and evolution are relevant for all domains of the life sciences.

Sustainability Psychology at the University of Leuphana is taught by members from various departments of the institute of psychology. The Institute's members are enthusiastic about research that answers fundamental psychological questions and at the same time focuses on their usefulness for sustainable social transformation processes. The Institute's psychological research focuses on changes in individuals at the micro level (e.g. negotiations in business relationships, fairness in performance evaluations) and at the macro level on changes in sub-areas of society (e.g. stakeholders in collective bargaining conflicts, occupational health managers).

This double degree master's integrative approach toward two expert fields equips you to better address today's grand, sustainability challenges from a psychologist's perspective. The programme, exceptional in Europe and beyond, is offered by Leuphana University, renowned in the field of sustainability science and the University of Groningen, leading in the field of environmental psychology.

The ISLANDS programme combines a thorough training in scientific research with a thematic specialization in Islands and Sustainability. It also provides multi-faceted training of research skills for social science and environmental research, including Individual Research Training by senior staff and training to work in a multi- and interdisciplinary research group. ISLANDS students will be required to study at the University of Groningen in the first semester and the first half of the second semester of the first year of the programme. Then they study at one of the island-based universities of the consortium where they undertake a Research Internship Module. After returning to Groningen, students will again go to an island-based university to undertake their Master's thesis project in the second semester of the second year. ISLANDS graduates receive a double degree from the University of Groningen (including an acknowledgement that this is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master degree involving all partner universities) and the island-based University. The ISLANDS programme builds on the existing Research Master in Spatial Sciences programme at the University of Groningen (RUG).
