The study programme has two academic traditions at the centre of its academic approach. First, theology, understood as the historical study of the Bible and the Christian tradition, combined with a contextual approach towards how religious faith and practices are lived out locally and globally today. Second, religious studies, which broadens its scope also towards other religious traditions and other religious texts. Common for the approaches is a common methodological interest for the study of texts and contexts, the interest for religious encounters, and a focus on contextual and lived religion.

This new program challenges its students to explore international and transnational processes, institutions and movements from multiple perspectives.

Building on the broad range of thematic competences present at Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History and the inspiring environment provided by the University of Oslo and the city, students are encouraged to study the forces that connect and separate people across national borders.

By focusing on international and transnational history from the mid-19th century to the recent past, the program offers a broad and global historical perspective on political, cultural, social and economic processes both between and beyond nation-states. It includes a combination of closely integrated core and specialized courses. The public history program is addressed to all the BA graduates, not only in history, and even not only in the humanities, who would like to conduct the research about and promote the public uses of history. Public history has been operating since the 1970s as a subdiscipline of history, but also as a separate academic discipline. It is called the history "for the people, by the people, with the people, of the people" and deals with all the aspects of history outside the formal education (also academic education). It operates for many years at the universities worldwide and enjoys considerable popularity among the students.

The history itself concentrates on examining the past (aiming at answering the question "how was it there?") while public history conducts research on how the knowledge about the past is present in the social consciousness and how it is (and may be) instilled in this consciousness, with the central question of "what do (did/will) the people know about how it was?" It focuses on the historical memory, which is rather marginal in the "traditional" history research. The courses from the public history program concentrate on the ways of shaping the historical consciousness (or collective memory) - both in the context of its theoretical framework and mechanism (including e.g. politics of history) and in various practical ways (tools/techniques) of influencing this memory and consciousness, starting from collecting and processing the testimonies of the past, through speech-writing and preparing other texts promoting the historical knowledge,... This programme aims to prepare qualified specialists in the field of contemporary philosophy with a focus on philosophy in the social sciences.

Philosophy is not conceived as an isolated discipline but as a discipline in dialogue with the findings of the social sciences (and some natural sciences), especially sociology, cultural and social anthropology, political science, cognitive science etc.

The consecutive (follow-on) Master's degree program "English Philology" is the English-language version of the degree program "Anglická filologie"; it follows on from the Bachelor degree program of the same name. The aim of the program is to produce graduates who are specialists in English philology - proficient users of English (C2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) with a solid knowledge of English linguistics and a deep knowledge of the literature and culture of English-speaking countries, who are aware of the professional literature in these fields and other information resources.

Graduates of the two-year consecutive (follow-on) Master's degree have a wide range of competencies in philological disciplines. Their knowledge demonstrates a qualitative and quantitative development of the theoretical knowledge, thinking and awareness gained as part of their previous Bachelor's studies of English philology. Courses in disciplines such as linguistic pragmatics, text linguistics, contrastive linguistic analysis, and sociolinguistics enable students to gain a comprehensive overview of the disciplinary landscape. The Master's program in Humanistic Studies is part of the ITESM project to strengthen the study of the Humanities and Social Sciences on the one hand; on the other, to create a space in which professionals from any area acquire a humanistic education that they link and apply in their professional activity.

This program also arises in response to the prevailing need in society to make a critical reflection in the area of ​​humanities with emphasis on Ethics, Literature and Discourse, Science and Culture and Communication and Cultural Studies.

The new world order and the democratic society need a strong, proactive, committed and articulated civil society, where a dialogue can be maintained between the different voices, mentalities and positions. In this dialogue, professionals with a humanistic background can be the bridges between human beings with their different philosophies, policies and histories. Our incipient democracy requires forming social subjects committed to an analytical vision that starts from the philosophical foundations and adopts interpretative methodologies that allow them to clearly analyze their own discourse and that of others. The Graduate Program in Translation began to offer its courses, as an experimental program, in 1970. The Academic Senate of the Campus approved the creation report in 1972. MASTER IN LINGUISTIC DATA SCIENCES

Language use and linguistic data are essential in various disciplines today and in all areas of our digitalized society. It is widely recognized that society needs people who understand language as data, who can work analytically and can analyze linguistic data systematically. This Master’s degree programme focuses on the interfaces between languages and digitalization in today’s world.

This programme, taught entirely in English, provides an opportunity to study language in today’s digitalized society from a variety of perspectives. These consist of sociolinguistics, language technology and translation. The core of this programme consists of a set of courses in empirical linguistics (syntax, phonetics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, contact linguistics, translation studies) that offer various areas of specialization for the students. In addition, we cross disciplinary boundaries and collaborate with computer science as well as data sciences and statistics. This means that students are encouraged to choose from optional packages that be used to tailor the programme to suit individual needs. The Master of Divinity, and Master of Divinity by extension, degree programs are for those seeking an academic program with practical applications within which to explore the depth of their faith and prepare for a variety of public and pastoral ministries. VST’s Master of Divinity program is accepted for ordination by the Anglican, United and Presbyterian denominations in Canada and by the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. Many other denominations accept all or part of this degree program, though some require at least a year in their denominational schools. Students should check with their denomination for specific ordination requirements.

The two-and-a-half-year program begins each fall, with courses on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:15 p.m. On Tuesdays, workshops in each genre (fiction, poetry, and nonfiction) focus on student manuscripts in a peer set of supportive critique. On Thursdays, literature seminars focus on traditions, styles, craft elements and developments, and literary models.

All courses are taken within the MFA program, with classes of three units each, for a total of 33 units during a two-and-a-half-year course of study.

Because cross-fertilization enriches creativity, students are free to take courses outside their primary genre and sample a range of cross-genre literature seminars. Because the depth of understanding is crucial to successful writing, students also take seminars and workshops that focus exclusively on one genre — long fiction, short fiction, poetry, or nonfiction. Students’ work culminates in a creative thesis — a book-length manuscript that is conceived, composed and revised with extensive faculty mentoring. Students work one-on-one with a faculty mentor who provides extensive feedback on their work in a series of scheduled meetings.
