Introduction
FAMU – Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague / Department of Photography
FAMU's Department of Photography was formed in 1975 and is one of the oldest schools of its kind in Europe. It offers a three-year bachelor’s programme and a subsequent two-year master’s programme, both taught in Czech and English. Studies take place in seven studios led by renowned photographers and contemporary artists – the Studio of Classical Photography, the Studio of Imaginative Photography, the Studio of Documentary Photography, the Studio of Intermedia and the Studio of New Aesthetics. Students familiarize themselves with a wide range of techniques for the production and post-production of photographic images. By learning their strengths and weaknesses, each student is given the creative means to support their own intentions and preferences. Additionally, students have the opportunity to gain experience in other FAMU departments (cinematography, editing, sound engineering etc.) during their studies. Courses in the history and theory of photography and media are also an integral part of the program.

Curriculum
The Department of Photography puts an emphasis on the individual development of each artist. The study includes art and photography history courses, philosophy seminars, practicums and workshops with renowned artists. Students also gain experience in graphic design and screen printing, as well as the art of bookbinding and the production of photographic publications. Multimedia instruction is also an integral part of our program.
Over the course of one's studies, students may participate in an array of specialized studios, fostering their knowledge through various artistic approaches. In the second year, students prepare for the final state exam. The program's objective is to prepare future artists for their own artistic endeavors and work on specialized projects in the field of art and artistic research.
