Our Master's Programme in Geography is based on high-quality research groups operating in some of the major fields of geography. It is divided into three study tracks: 1) physical geography, 2) human geography, and 3) geoinformatics.

In the Master's Programme in Linguistic Diversity and Digital Humanities (Previously: Linguistic Diversity in the Digital Age), you may deepen your understanding of the nature and diversity of human language and the theoretical and digital tools for working with language and speech.

Studies in this Master in Mathematics and Statistics will lead you into the fascinating world of modern science, giving you a solid basis for mathematics and statistics applications.

The basis of natural sciences is the modelling of phenomena and solving these models. The Master’s Programme in Theoretical and Computational Methods will give you a strong basis in theoretical methods, modelling, and mathematical and numerical analysis within physics, mathematics, chemistry and/or computer science. The special feature of this programme is that you can combine the above disciplines into a comprehensive programme.

In the Master’s Programme in English Studies at the University of Helsinki, you develop your expertise in areas that are often separated in other programmes: English language and linguistics, literature in English and the teaching of English. You can take courses in all three areas or just focus on one of them.

The multidisciplinary Master’s Programme in Life Science Informatics (LSI) provides the tools to gain knowledge from models and data. It integrates research excellence across the Faculties of Science, Medicine and Bio- and Environmental Sciences with the Helsinki Institute of Life Sciences (HiLIFE), thus providing cutting-edge education from experts in the life sciences, medicine, mathematics, statistics, and informatics

The Master’s Programme in Urban Studies and Planning (USP) prepares students to excel as professionals capable of understanding and addressing complex urban development challenges. Students learn to address such challenges through a curriculum and pedagogical approach that includes interdisciplinary breadth as well as depth in core areas of knowledge, skill and practice. USP is a joint programme between the University of Helsinki and Aalto University.

Can spent nuclear fuel be safely contained in bedrock? How does chemistry benefit bioeconomy? In the Master's Programme in Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, you learn experimental research methods in many fields of chemistry, like analytical and synthetic chemistry, radiochemistry, molecular research, and spectroscopy. The studies provide you with an excellent basis for expertise and prepare you to meet local and global challenges.

What are the laws of nature governing the universe from elementary particles to the development of the solar system, stars and galaxies? In the Master’s Programme in Particle Physics and Astrophysical Sciences, you focus on gaining an extensive understanding of these phenomena. You will also acquire proficiency in the use of mathematical methods, IT tools and/or experimental equipment, as well as strong problem-solving and logical deduction skills.

The Master's Programme in Atmospheric Sciences (ATM-MP) educates all meteorologists in Finland about weather forecasting, meteorological research and aviation safety. We also educate hydrospheric geophysicists to work in the fields of cryology, hydrology and oceanography, and chemists and aerosol physicists to work in companies.

Master’s Programme in Economics at the University of Helsinki provides demanding, high-quality education in the field of economics. Oriented towards social sciences, the two study tracks of the program prepare students for demanding expert occupations or equip them with the capability to pursue a Doctoral Degree in Economics.
