The Don Vasco University began its activities in 1964, as the Don Vasco Cultural Institute, A.C. The priest José Luis Sahagún de la Parra, the priest Gonzalo Gutiérrez Guzmán and the Lic. Rafael Anaya González, promoted the university project.

In the first five years, they founded junior high and high school. In the 1970s, the first professional schools that offered their educational services to the inhabitants of the region were Administration, Accounting, and Architecture. In 1985 they opened studies in Social Work and Planning for Agricultural Development.

Following the strategy of advancing in stages, and always in accordance with the needs of the region, in 1988 they founded the schools of Pedagogy and Graphic Design. That same year the Institute was constituted as Universidad Don Vasco, A.C.

In the following decade, degrees in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Law will be offered. The opening of the School of Psychology occurred in 2003.

At different times in history, UDV has had master's degrees, diplomas, and currently a doctorate in administrative sciences.

The founders of the University incorporated the studies of all the degrees and the preparatory to the National Autonomous University of Mexico. This made it possible for students to access programs of the highest quality and have all the support of the highest university in the country, without having to leave their families. Likewise, thanks to the institution, women had full access to professional studies.
