Introduction
Offered by Nanyang Technological University – Nanyang Technopreneurship Center since 2002, the Master of Science Technopreneurship and Innovation Programme (MSc TIP) equips students with essential entrepreneurial skills and business acumen to turn novel ideas into successful ventures. The Nanyang Technopreneurship Center (NTC) is a key player in innovation and entrepreneurship education at Nanyang Technological University, the first Kauffman Campus outside the United States established through a partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. NTC spearheads entrepreneurship education in the region and offers a springboard for participants with entrepreneurial intentions to work with leading educators, researchers, and inventors around the world.
Why
Emphasizing experiential learning, MSc TIP integrates the knowledge of emerging technologies and innovative business models and practices into its curriculum. The course covers strategic and operational issues of entrepreneurial ventures at their different growth stages. Participants have opportunities to engage with various stakeholders in the entrepreneurship ecosystem throughout the program. Many graduates have benefitted from the program and transformed their entrepreneurial ideas into successful ventures.

Curriculum
Emphasizes experiential learning focusing on technopreneurship and innovation, set in a rapidly changing global context.
The curriculum will be taught over 3 trimesters (1 year). The 7 core modules are carefully set according to the program objective and the talent training need. They form the pillars of the technopreneurship and innovation knowledge system. They not only reflect the unique features and the standard of this program but also set specific requirements on the basic quality and competence of the students. On top of the 7 core modules, this program offers 7 electives that focus on three areas: Entrepreneurship Practice, New Venture Financing, and Entrepreneurship Policy for students to develop knowledge and skills for different roles in the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Each student can choose 3 out of 7 electives based on their interest.
With a team comprising experienced academics, practitioners, and entrepreneurs, the graduate program blends theory and practice into its curriculum.
Incorporating an entrepreneurial mindset and behavior, the graduate program enables participants to better acquire and apply the knowledge and skills and apply them in real-life scenarios.

All classes are held on campus at NTU.
Core Modules
- Introduction to Entrepreneurship
Introduces entrepreneurship and innovation concepts, and the entrepreneurial approach to new venture creation. Students learn to develop and apply entrepreneurial thinking systematically, with an emphasis on conceptualization, planning, and starting a business. - Entrepreneurial Marketing and Business Development
Introduces the marketing framework and business development strategies, supplemented with specific methodologies and tools to apply in real-life entrepreneurship scenarios. - New Venture Financing
Illustrates entrepreneurial financing from both the perspective of an entrepreneur looking to build his venture and the perspective of a venture capitalist looking to invest in promising startups. - Managing Growing Ventures
Introduces the framework of entrepreneurial management and strategies for startups seeking venture growth. Related topics of leadership, operations, human resources, supply chain, and legal and regulatory issues are discussed in a ‘hands-on’ format. - Technopreneurial Mindset
Presents a series of distinguished technology expert talks and facilitated reviews to walk the students through the specialized fields relating to technopreneurship and innovation, enabling students to develop a technopreneurship mindset. - Design and System Thinking
Discusses the roles that innovation and design play in entrepreneurship, including design thinking and the applications. System thinking knowledge and skills further enable students to develop a holistic way of managing and growing ventures. - Technopreneurship Challenge
This capstone course offers a unique case challenge that addresses real-life technopreneurship and/or innovation issues. Students form teams of different expertise to identify real-life problems and propose viable solutions.

Entrepreneurship Practice Track
- Entrepreneurial Decision Making
Through a state-of-the-art business simulator, students start new companies, develop and execute business strategies and plans, obtain equity investment, build the companies, and execute strategies, through the competition in a virtual business world. - Technology Commercialisation
Provides a platform to examine technology trends and key issues in commercializing inventions and innovations, with an emphasis on the successful transfer of technologies from a research environment to commercialization into successful products or services - Venture Internship
Provides valuable opportunities for participants to practice entrepreneurial mindset and skills in a dynamic business environment, grow the network, and gain insights to facilitate entrepreneurial decision-making or career choices in the future.
New Venture Financing Track
- Venture Capital Investment
Introduces a systematic framework and related techniques pertaining to venture capital investment as a profession. Participants learn to develop an advanced level of skills in venture valuation and investment decision-making. - Venture Capital Practice
Examines a substantial number of real-life venture capital and private equity investment cases at an advanced level covering investment cycles, from fundraising, deal screening, negotiations, and fund management, to performance reporting.
Entrepreneurship Policy Track
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship Policy
Reviews theories and empirical research on the relationship between entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic growth, from both historical and international perspectives. - Ecosystem Development
Discusses various elements that foster a successful ecosystem – universities, accelerators, incubators, venture capital, banks, labor laws, intellectual property rights, etc., and the winning strategies.
