Two decades ago, a higher education institution was created in Colombia whose characteristics have made it particularly different: Unisangil. Its origin was the Solidarity Economy. She was born in San Gil, Santander, in 1988, motivated by the interest of a group of social and cooperative organizations that saw professionalization, science, knowledge, and technology as a strategic field for the regional development model.
Fulfilling its original vocation, Unisangil has played a leading role in the promotion of micro-entrepreneurs, as well as in the consolidation of a first-rate human capital to seek answers to the needs and problems of its areas of influence, on a map that transcends the physical borders of the department of Santander and is integrated with Casanare and Boyacá.
In 1992, the San Gil campus began academic work; in 1996, the Yopal headquarters, and in 2000, the Chiquinquirá headquarters.
In 2000 Unisangil signed a cooperation alliance with the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga, UNAB, thanks to it there has been an institutional and academic strengthening, the latter translates into the offer of academic programs UNAB in the area of influence of Unisangil.
