Introduction
Operations Management and Control
Are you interested in finding solutions to complex managerial problems and creating value for customers? Our new two-year MSc programme in Operations Management and Control will provide you with the knowledge and tools needed to manage the dynamic challenges of modern public organisations and businesses.
Why operations management?
Operations management is the activity of managing the resources which are devoted to the production and delivery of products and services. It involves the design, management and improvement of products, services, processes and supply chains. This might sound abstract, but these processes are constantly going on all around us and are therefore relevant in all sectors of society. This is an exceptional opportunity to study operations management without any previous background in the area as it covers the topic from a strategic, financial and business development perspective, rather than from a technical and mathematical view.
What you will learn
As a graduate of this programme, you will be able to see the big picture and evaluate all the different steps that go into producing and delivering a product or service and locating areas of improvement. You will learn to handle the often complex process of changing cultures and procedures within a business or organisation. The mandatory courses address the topic area at three different levels:
Industrial dynamics and transformation, which for example concern perspectives and tools to analyse markets and industries in transition, the role of new technology, and global macro trends and their impact on operations management and control. Value creating processes, which for example concern models that help to design effective flows of products, services, capital and information from suppliers to end customers. Project leadership and change management. After all, operations management and control is about improving current practice. We believe our graduates will lead projects in their future careers and handle people in organisational change projects. Therefore such skills are also thoroughly developed in the programme. In addition to this, courses are also given in financial analysis, performance measurement and management control to develop your business sense.
Your future career
This programme provides a solid platform for a future career of managing structures and processes of organisations in transformation both in Sweden and internationally. To ensure high employability we collaborate closely with both public and private sector organisations, making sure we address relevant challenges for operations managers and controllers in the field. Suitable positions include supply chain planner, business controller, operational developer, production/services leader, strategic buyer/procurer, management consultant and project leader.
