Graduate Studies

A dynamic community comprised of scholars, theorists, critics, and professionals, Graduate Studies within the College of Communication and the Arts provides students with immersive learning experiences that blend theory and practical components in ways that permit students to recognize, test, and translate course material into academic, professional, and workplace settings.

Graduate Studies currently offers two Masters-level programs, including Communication and Museum Professions. In addition, three dual-degree options, including three accelerated B.A./M.A. programs and a dual M.A. degree with the School of Diplomacy and International Relations are offered.

Graduate Programs

Campus Features

Seton Hall has the ideal location — close to all the action, yet not engulfed by it. The University's suburban, 58-acre park-like campus sits proudly within the picturesque town of South Orange, New Jersey. South Orange provides small-town charm with tree-lined streets, historic homes and quaint shops, as well as big-city opportunities with New York City just a short 14 miles away.

Getting to New York is easy — just a quick ten minute stroll to the town center and you can hop on the train and be in NYC's Penn Station in just about 30 minutes. Admissions

To be considered for admission to any of the graduate degree programs, applicants are required to submit the following materials:

Electronic application and application fee
Resume/Curriculum vitae
Personal statement (up to 550 words, about 2 pages) - please review our tips and suggestions
Official transcript(s) from all institutions attended - including pre- and post-baccalaureate coursework
GRE or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) scores (see below for waiver criteria)
Letters of recommendation (2)

In addition to the above application materials, international applicants must satisfy the following admissions requirements-

Course-by-course transcript evaluation from an accredited transcript evaluation agency
TOEFL or IELTS exam (if English is not an applicant's native language)

How to Apply

Visa Requirements

International Student Visa Requirements

For international applicants who require a student visa, the Office of International Programs (OIP) will evaluate an applicant's materials to determine if they are sufficient to issue an I-20. An I-20 is used to apply for an F-1 student visa.

The documentation necessary for an I-20 includes-

Declaration and Certification of Finances with attached proof of ability to pay for the cost of education
Request for Certificate of Eligibility (I-20) form
International students currently residing in the United States must also complete a Visa Sponsorship Transfer form indicating the SEVIS release date.

Scholarships and Funding

All applications for admission received by the deadline are considered for any available College-level scholarship opportunities. When funding is available and a student is eligible, notification about a scholarship is communicated in writing.

Graduate Assistantships

These are competitive full-tuition awards for students who have been accepted to a graduate degree program. Additional information about Graduate Assistantships, as well as a listing of external scholarships related to Communication and the Arts for which an international student may be eligible, is available from

Please note, if you intend on pursuing a Graduate Assistantship opportunity, all items required as part of your application to a degree program must be received and you must have been notified of your acceptance to the program before submitting applications for assistantships.

Dean’s Graduate Scholarships

The criteria for these awards vary by semester, but an applicant with a strong academic record is likely to receive an award. Please note, a separate application for the Dean’s Graduate Scholarship is not required. Your complete application for admission including all supplementary requirements will be considered for any available funding. Should you be awarded a scholarship, you will be notified following your acceptance to the program.
