Introduction
This program focuses on a topic of your choice through an independent research project. It is specifically designed to enable you to develop your research skills and to undertake independent research while at the same time, broadening your knowledge and understanding in an area of psychology that excites you.
You will learn how to research the literature and plan and manage a research project. The skills and attributes you gain in critical thinking, project management, and report writing will help you to achieve your career potential.
The program also provides an excellent springboard for students wishing to continue their studies through to a Ph.D. level.

The Psychology Department has three research groups: Well-being & Community Psychology, Organisational & Work Psychology, and Cognitive & Experimental Psychology. This broad range of expertise means we can help you study the following areas:
- Biological Psychology – includes the areas of hormones and behavior, brain function, and genetics
- Cognitive Psychology – includes the areas of attention, perception, learning, and language
- Development Psychology – includes the areas of lifespan development and the social and cultural contexts of development
- Individual Differences – includes the areas of personality, intelligence, motivation, and mental health
- Social Psychology – includes the areas of attribution, attitudes, group processes, intergroup relations, and close relationships
- Applied Psychology – includes the areas of clinical and health psychology, education or school psychology, and industrial and organizational psychology
