Introduction
This course is for you if you wish to apply your understanding of economics and quantitative techniques to the analysis of problems in business regulation, organisation and finance.
The MSc in Business Analysis and Finance provides you with the opportunity to apply your knowledge of economics to the analysis of business problems and finance. The course combines advanced academic learning with real-world practical insights and will open up a wide range of career opportunities.
By taking this MSc, you will gain advanced knowledge and expertise in quantitative techniques and have the opportunity to apply those skills to problem-solving in the areas of business regulation, organisation and finance. The course will equip you with computer skills which can be applied to business data analysis and develop your confidence in the use and presentation of economic arguments in your professional role. To help you develop the skills that leading employers ask for, and let you see how traders work, we have 12 Bloomberg terminals in the University Library.
On completion of the MSc, you will be prepared for a wide variety of careers in management, the civil service and international organisations.
Entry Requirements
A good second class honours degree or equivalent from a recognised university with some mathematical or statistical content.
English Language Requirements
IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.
Career Opportunities
At the start of the course, you will cover the content for the Investment Foundations Certificate offered by the CFA. It is recognised by employers in the finance industry and can be completed externally to the University for a small fee. You will be also be introduced to the Bloomberg Terminals and given the opportunity to complete a free online examination, ‘Bloomberg Essentials’. Completing these professional certificates can really help you stand out to employers.
You will benefit from career support from our in-house Career Development Manager and the University’s Career Development Service which offers tailored postgraduate employability support. Many of our students have gone on to work in global organisations across industries including banking and finance, engineering, service industry, logistics, and technology, as well as governments, NGOs and charities, or pursued careers in academia and education.
