Introduction
The Master’s degree aims to train marine biologists with the skills needed for understanding key processes and patterns in marine and coastal ecosystems, for the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources, and for the development of methods and technologies for the breeding of economically relevant commercial species.
The knowledge of Biology acquired during the Bachelor will be deepened with course units on evolutionary processes; reproductive strategies; adaptation, morphological and functional plasticity; genetics; molecular biology; marine ecology and conservation; climate changes and other anthropogenic impacts on the environment; experimental design and data analysis.

Curriculum
Earning a Master's degree in Marine Biology involves the successful completion of a structured academic program, comprising a total of 120 ECTS credits.
1st Year: Experimental design and statistical analysis; Marine biodiversity; Marine ecology: patterns and processes; Molecular methods for management and aquaculture; Ecology and physiology of global changes; Life cycles and adaptations of marine organisms; Marine conservation: principles and applications; Pharmacology, Toxicology, and welfare in aquaculture; Practical marine ecology; Seafood sustainability, production, and control.
2nd Year: Biodiversity and behavior; Marine ecotoxicology; Farming and feeding of aquatic species; Reproduction in aquaculture; Marine microbiology; Pathology of aquatic organisms; Ecological Modelling.
Career Opportunities
Graduates reach leadership roles in public and private institutions devoted to the protection and sustainable development of the coastal and marine environment, in laboratories of marine ecotoxicology and quality control of seafood, and in aquaculture facilities. In addition, it is possible to be employed in research institutions and to work in the field of education and outreach. After completion of the Master's, students can sustain the State qualification test for being a professional biologist in Italy. This Master’s degree sets the basis to continue an advanced training with a Ph.D. in Italy or abroad.

Galilean School of Higher Education Scholarships
The Scuola Galileiana di Studi Superiori (Galilean School of Higher Education) is the University of Padua’s school of excellence. Scholarships awarded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation MAECI
Every year, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation awards scholarships for studying in Italy to both international students and Italian students who are permanent residents in countries other than Italy (IRE).
These scholarships aim to foster international cultural cooperation, spread the knowledge of the Italian language, culture, and science, as well as promote the Italian economic and technological system throughout the world.
Grants are offered to pursue study, training, and/or research programs at Italian Higher Education Institutes, both public and legally recognized.
Loans for merit
The University of Padua has signed an agreement with the bank Banca Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A, the savings bank Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo, and the Association ‘Friends of the University of Padua’. The agreement is aimed at providing EU students with a flexible borrowing option at advantageous interest rates, to be granted with no need for collateral, to bear expenses for education.
The loan will be granted following checks on the eligibility criteria of the student asking for the financing and prior approval of the lender.
