Introduction
Environmental, social and governance issues are now a major factor in investment. This creates rapid growth in accounting and finances careers with a specific focus on sustainability.
This MSc is designed in line with recommendations by major professional bodies, including the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) and the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI). In this course, you’ll:
- expand your skills in environmental accounting, corporate governance, and climate and green finance;
- explore the role of accounting and finance in the growing integration of sustainability and accountability practices;
- develop valuable skills, including breaking down complex problems, decision-making under uncertainty, intercultural communication and awareness of the business context.
You’ll be taught by world-class researchers and enthusiastic teachers at the University of Sussex Business School. Our research strengths are:
- corporate reporting and sustainability, governance and social responsibility
- climate finance
- energy policy.
Benefitting from the expertise at our SPRU – Science Policy Research Unit, you’ll also have the opportunity to explore policies on sustainable development in the corporate world.
Curriculum
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2022/23. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to COVID-19, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let our applicants know of material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
We’ll do our best to provide as many optional choices as we can, but timetabling constraints mean it may not be possible to take some module combinations. The structure of a small number of courses means that the order of modules or the streams you choose may determine whether modules are core or optional. This means that your core modules or options may differ from what’s shown below.
We’ll display the modules running in the academic year 2023/24 as soon as possible.
