Academics
Accelerate the Learning Curve
In the M.S. in Commerce Program, you will be challenged to integrate the discipline-specific skill set you developed as liberal arts, science, or engineering student within the context of global business. You may be surprised at how quickly your perspective shifts and how rapidly you can acquire the analytical tools needed to assess complex business opportunities. And what typically takes years to learn "on the job," is quickly absorbed as you engage in carefully selected case studies, team projects, and in-class discussions with industry leaders designed to sharpen your critical thinking and refine your executive presentation skills.
Part 1: Build a Foundation in Business
Integrated Core Experience (17 credits)
Gain a 360-degree view of business via course content, integrative projects, and case studies that develop an understanding of real-world business problems.
Part 2: Develop a Speciality
Business Analytics (15 credits)
Learn the skills, technologies, and practices necessary to design, create, and analyze datasets as well as report meaningful insights to diverse audiences.
Finance (15 credits)
Develop a comprehensive understanding of global financial markets and systems, along with the financial, analytical, and decision-making tools needed for success.
Marketing & Management (15 credits)
Acquire in-depth knowledge of the principles and practices of modern marketing while cultivating essential professional and managerial skills.
Part 3: Study the Global Context of Business
Global Immersion Experience (GIE Abroad) (8 credits)
Explore firsthand the challenges of global business and learn the dynamics of the business environment of one major region of the world.
Admissions
The McIntire School of Commerce seeks well-rounded individuals who bring exceptional intellectual capabilities, proven academic preparation, and a passion for their chosen field of study. The graduate admissions committee looks for evidence of strong academic ability and qualities of character, such as motivation, maturity, tenacity, integrity, ability to work with others, self-reliance, and leadership. We strive to achieve a class environment with a diversity of perspectives and life experiences.
Deadlines
The M.S. in Commerce Program begins once each year, starting in mid-August and finishing coursework at the end of June. Applications to the program are accepted on a rolling-admission basis from November through June.
Applications received after the June 1 deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis as long as space is available. Please note the recommended deadline for international applicants currently studying outside the United States is Jan. 1, and the deadline to be considered in the first round of scholarship offers is Feb. 1.
*International applicants applying to the Jan. 1 deadline should note that all required materials must be received by the deadline date, including official test scores, recommendations, and course-by-course credential evaluations when applicable. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed until all materials have been received.
