The Central University of Chile is a national and private higher education institution - non-profit - that assumes academic training from a high commitment to the country to deliver to its homeland a citizen with social conscience, promoter of the values of tolerance, pluralism and equity, as well as respect and acceptance of diversity in all areas of their work. The university has as a foundational value the integral formation of its students. This implies a perspective of intentional learning, tending to the strengthening of a responsible, critical, participative, creative, supportive personality with the capacity to recognize and interact with its environment and thus build its cultural identity. It seeks to promote human growth through a process that involves a multidimensional vision of the person, and tends to develop aspects such as emotional, intellectual, social, material and ethical-value intelligence. The role of the corporation as an irradiating center and diffuser of knowledge, art, sport, traditions and national history in society is also of vital importance.
Founded in 1982, the UCEN is - along with two other institutions - the oldest private university in Chile. He currently holds technical degrees at a higher level, a regional headquarters in La Serena and nine faculties that teach 31 undergraduate courses, and several graduates, master's degrees, and post-graduates; it especially promotes research through study centers, research institutes, and an Internal Research Fund, which are added to the research work carried out in the faculties, schools and chairs. With more than fourteen thousand undergraduate and graduate students and more than 20,000 graduates, it confirms its success as a unique case in the Chilean university system. Indeed, because it constitutes a different educational proposal that reinvests all its profits in the same entity; owns the buildings, land and other goods in which it operates; and whose administration and development rests with its own academics through a democratic governance structure.
The UCEN has an infrastructure and equipment of first level and in constant renovation, with a total of 81,981 square meters built. It has several buildings located in the center of Santiago, a sports center in height and a regional headquarters in La Serena.
The institution has a seal of quality endorsed by 34 years of excellent teaching, great preparation of our academic staff and extensive extension work carried out in order to train competent professionals with a vocation for public service, principles that are evident in both the mission as in the values of our house of studies.
