Anglia Ruskin University

What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do.

At Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), taking the leap, defying the odds, and striving to succeed is what we do. These are the stories of the people who make ARU.

Our vision

Transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research.

Our values

We are determined to achieve our goals and continually strive to enhance our University for the benefit of all.

We will apply our collective and individual creativity to conceive and develop new ideas, implementing them for the benefit of the communities we serve.

We are bold in taking the decisions we feel are right, even when it is difficult to do so.

We greatly value working collaboratively, supporting each other and helping everyone to achieve their potential.

We do what we say we will do and are fair and transparent in our decision-making and actions.

We take decisions and act in a way which respects environmental, societal and economic considerations, and which best supports those who study and work with us.

National Student Survey 2018

At Anglia Ruskin, students are at the heart of our University. We want their educational experience to engage and challenge them so they reach their full potential.

And so we’re delighted that our final year students have once again rated their educational experience highly in the annual National Student Survey (NSS).

This year, ARU's overall satisfaction score has increased to 84% – above the sector average of 83%.

Our students rate us highly

Students taking part in the survey are asked a series of questions about aspects of university life, including teaching, assessment and feedback, learning resources, and student voice. This year, 78% of our final year students responded.

As well as our overall satisfaction score increasing to 84%, it’s fantastic to see that our students:

  • rate their educational experience – from teaching and academic support to assessment and feedback – highly
  • feel confident that their voice is heard, and that we value their opinion. This has come through strongly for the second year running
  • value the learning community at Anglia Ruskin.

We really value the results, as they help us to enhance the student experience at Anglia Ruskin. They also help prospective students to make an informed choice about where they want to study.

Teaching Excellence Framework Silver award

We are delighted to hold a TEF Silver award, which reflects the high quality of teaching delivered by our talented staff.

Our TEF Silver award means that we deliver high-quality teaching, learning and outcomes for our students and consistently exceed rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education. We are particularly pleased that our assessment highlighted very high levels of student satisfaction and that most of our students achieve excellent outcomes.

It was particularly pleasing that the TEF Panel stated we were‘notably above our benchmark’ as we had ‘very high levels of student satisfaction with teaching, assessment and feedback, and academic support'.

The TEF panel recognised that we are transforming lives through innovation, inclusive and entrepreneurial education, which is reflected in our new vision and desire to provide 'An outstanding and inclusive educational experience' in our University Strategy, Designing our future 2017-26.

Awards and recognition

We're winners

In 2018, we were named as one of the top 250 universities in Europe – while at the same time winning an award for the quality of our learning facilities.

The Chartered Management Institute has also recognised the impact we're making on our students' employability, management and leadership skills.

Our final-year students once again rated their educational experience – including teaching, academic support, assessment and feedback – highly in the National Student Survey.
